From its early beginnings as an isolated island, Nobbys has changed significantly over the years.
Firstly, it was joined to the mainland and then reduced to half its original height,now 27.5 metres.
Once the Port's lighthouse and communication centre, as well as home to the signal station staff of the Newcastle Port Corporation and their families. today the lighthouse remains with plans for limited commercial use, allowing the site to be opened to the public.
