The suburb of Stockton is a short ferry ride from the centre of Newcastle, and has parklands and picnic areas. The Stockton to Newcastle Ferry takes around three minutes and runs every half-hour during daylight hours. You can catch the ferry from the terminal in the Queens Wharf complex. The Queens Wharf complex also includes an observation tower, along with restaurants and a hotel. The northern and southern breakwaters are popular walking areas, with the historic "Shipwreck Walk" on the northern breakwater (in Stockton) and viewing platforms and sculptures on the southern breakwater. Theres a lot more history to learn about this area on the History pages. There are special places set aside for fishing in Carrington, there is a a dog-friendly beach, called "Horseshoe Beach" not far from the southern breakwater, where you can let your dog run without a lead. |
