Organisations that the Corporation supports include: National Maritime FestivalNewcastle Port Corporation has been a long term sponsor of the National Maritime Festival which allows members to participate in a number of activities around the harbour. The next Maritime Festival is schedule for Australia Day 2011 (Wednesday, 26 January) and as a sponsor of the event the Corporation offers free tours of the working port aboard a chartered vessel. As well as being proud advocates for Newcastle's maritime history, Newcastle Port Corporation is also very keen to encourage people from the region and beyond to visit the working port of Newcastle and enjoy the beautiful scenery. One way that we can achieve both of these aims is to support the Newcastle Region Maritime Museum which opened its refurbished premises on Lee Wharf (Honeysuckle) in late 2008. The Maritime Museum organises the National Maritime Festival as one of its major activities. The Corporation recognises that coal plays a key role in our local and national economy and the aim of the sponsorship is to assist researchers through the partnership to find a cleaner way of burning coal.
The research project will be conducted at the University's recently announced Priority Research Centre for Energy. |
