Mayfield Development Site Information

A 90 hectare port side development site on the former BHP Steelworks site in Newcastle, with excellent road, rail and sea access, is now under the control of Newcastle Port Corporation.

This land is strategic port land within the busy working port and has been set aside for the specific intent of supporting cargo handling infrastructure. It is a superior site that can support a diverse range of infrastructure such as general cargo, bulk materials, bulk liquids, and particularly container trade.

Mayfield Highlights

• Newcastle Port Corporation has a vision for the site that will increase trade through the Port of Newcastle.
• The vision includes terminals and cargo handling infrastructure that will support general cargo, bulk and particularly container trade.
• The container terminal will have the ultimate capability of handling in excess of one million TEUs per annum. 
• The site is ninety (90) hectares located three kilometres from the Hunter River entrance and five kilometres west of the Newcastle business district. 
• Seventy-one (71) hectares of site is available for the development of trade related infrastructure.
• The site has approximately two kilometres of deepwater river frontage.
• Has connection into the NSW rail freight network.
• Easy access to the F3 Freeway, New England Highway and Pacific Highway.
• New berth and hardstand under construction and nearing completion.
• Complemented by the development of the adjoining Intertrade Industrial Park.
